Warwickshire County Cricket Club has agreed a three-year contract extension with new men’s team captain Will Rhodes to ensure that he remains a Bear until at least the end of the 2023 playing season.

All-rounder Rhodes (24) took over club captaincy for First Class and List A men’s cricket from Jeetan Patel in November 2019, having joined the club following the 2017 season.

He has since gone on to form a key opening partnership with England international Dom Sibley, which contributed more runs than any other Championship pairing in 2019, whilst also establishing himself in the team across all formats.

Aged only 24, Will has the opportunity to be our captain for a long period of time, so it is important for all of us at Warwickshire, and for him, that his future is secured.

Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Aged only 24, Will has the opportunity to be our captain for a long period of time, so it is important for all of us at Warwickshire, and for him, that his future is secured.

“We’re thrilled that he has signed and reinforced his commitment to the club, and we look forward to seeing him lead our young team forward in 2020 and beyond.”

Rhodes has made 28 First Class, 10 List A and 14 T20 appearances for the Bears since making his debut in the 2018 season.

Will Rhodes said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time with Warwickshire since joining in late-2017 and it was a great honour to be asked to captain the Club last November.

“I’m thrilled to now put pen to paper and confirm my long-term future as a Bear.

“There are a lot of talented, young cricketers in the squad and we’ve got big ambitions and the potential to develop into a team that can consistently challenge for trophies.”
