Warwickshire Women continued their incredible start to the 2017 One-Day Season with a dominant performance over Nottinghamshire Women. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Warwickshire Women’s openers Amy Jones and Katherine Bryce put on an opening stand of 90, with both girls scoring 50s. Once Jones fell, Georgia Hennessy came in to join Bryce and the pair put on a further 59 run partnership to see the Bears to 149-2. With the girls in a commanding position the middle and lower order were able to play without pressure and they scored freely. Captain Marie Kelly and Rebecca Grundy made quick scores of 20 and 21 respectively, before a late flourish from Lizzie Russell saw the Women finis 253-7.

Facing an imposing target Nottinghamshire started slowly, with their opening partnership reaching just 33 from 75 balls. With the pressure beginning to mount, Lizzie Russell and Anisha Patel went about dismantling the Notts batting order in an almost ruthless fashion. Nottinghamshire’s only resistance came from Boyce, who scored a slow 27. Patel stole the bowling headlines taking 6-56, while Lizzie Russell took 2-37.

Warwickshire Women’s next game is against Berkshire Women at Wokingham Cricket Club on Sunday 28 May.
