A stylish century from Dominic Sibley set Warwickshire on the way to a 131-run win over West Indies A in their 50-over match at Edgbaston.
Sibley scored 115 (103 balls, ten fours, four sixes) as the Bears piled up 385 for six after being put in.
Jason Mohammed then blasted 102 (95 balls, nine fours, five sixes) when the tourists replied but they were bowled out for 254 in 40.3 overs with trialist Danny Douthwaite taking three for 43, Alex Thomson three for 53 and Olly Hannon-Dalby three for 55.
Warwickshire’s innings was given an explosive start by Ed Pollock who blasted 47 (27 balls, seven fours, three sixes) out of an opening stand of 72 in seven overs with Sibley.
After Pollock fell to Dominic Drakes, son of former Bears seamer Vasbert, Sibley added 50 in eight overs with Andy Umeed (28, 25 balls, one four, two sixes) before being joined by Will Rhodes for the biggest stand of the innings.
The third-wicket pair added 138 in 19 overs before Rhodes fell for 69 (58 balls, six fours, three sixes).
Sibley then advanced to an accomplished century and late impetus was added by Matt Lamb (47, 59 balls, two fours, two sixes) and Douthwaite (38 not out 24 balls, one four, three sixes).
Douthwaite, a 21-year-old who came through the Surrey age-groups but has been on the Bears’ radar for some time, then got among the wickets too. After Oliver Hannon-Dalby, fresh from taking seven for 35 in the Second XI Trophy semi-final against Somerset on Friday, took wickets with his sixth and 12th balls, Douthwaite dismissed dangerous pair Jermaine Blackwood and Rovman Powell before having Rahkeen Cornwall caught behind.
Mohammed, who has played 26 ODIs for West Indies, unleashed some heavy blows but after he fell to Rhodes the tourists’ challenge faded away.
