Day 1

Northants won the toss and batted in the latest Second XI Championship match against a Warwickshire side that included three England Test players, Chris Woakes, Jonathan Trott and Tim Ambrose.

The Bears' seam attack included Chris Wright, Ryan Sidebottom, Ollie Stone and Chris Woakes and only Northants batsmen Adair 28 and Murphy 19 offered any resistance with a fourth wicket partnership of 49.

Brinder Phagura 3-2 ran through the middle-order as the visitors were dismissed during the afternoon session for just 154.

There was sufficient time for Warwickshire to overhaul that total before stumps for the loss of just two wickets, with Andrew Umeed unbeaten on 62 and Matthew Lamb on 40.

Rob Yates, four, and Trott, 29, were the batsmen out as Warwickshire closed the day in a strong position, four runs ahead with eight wickets in hand.

Day 2

On a day when rain reduced play to just 48 overs, Umeed went immediately on the second day, without adding to his overnight score and, after completing his half-century, Lamb 55 quickly followed.

Woakes, 14, fell to Sharif as Northamptonshire appeared to be bowling themselves back into the match, but an unbroken partnership of 163 between Ambrose 118* and Thomson 43* took Warwickshire to 356-5 before a declaration allowed them eight overs at their opponents before stumps.

It proved to be a torrid eight overs with both Wright and Sidebottom taking two wickets each. Northants closed the day on 26 for four, trailing by 176 runs

Day 3

Pepper 51 and Sharif 32 held Warwickshire up at the start of the final day, adding 59 for the fifth wicket, which became Northants best partnership of the match.

Berkswell seamer Ryan Sidebottom then produced an outstanding spell by taking six more wickets, all those remaining to fall in the day, to add to his earlier two. He finished with figures of 8-33 from 13.2 overs as Northants fell away to 131 all out in a little more than 35 overs play on the day.

Warwickshire had completed a comprehensive innings and 71 run victory.
