Winning the toss at Merchant Taylors School, Warwickshire chose to bat first in their opening SET match of the season and made a strong start with Umeed 48 and Banks 78 putting on eighty seven for the first wicket, before Umeed offered Sivarajah a return catch in the twenty first over.

Pollock 13 was bowled by Smith before Banks and Lamb added 69 runs for the third wicket before Banks was bowled by Sivarajah. Lamb 39 and Thomason 33 kept the boards ticking over and a final free hitting innings from Adair, unbeaten on twenty five, including two sixes, helped Warwickshire reach 274-7 from their fifty overs.

The wickets were spread amongst the MCC’s bowlers with Mann and Sivarajah each taking two wickets.

In reply, the MCC made a solid start, reaching 33-0 in the seventh over, but three wickets in eleven deliveries from Thomason removed their top order, as they wobbled on 40-3 after nine overs. This became 68-5 with further strikes from Javid and Poysden before a partnership of eighty three between Cross 75 and Lazar 53 threatened to get the home side back on target.

Once Lazar had been bowled by Lamb, only brief resistance from Smithson 16* and Barber 18 held Warwickshire up before completing an emphatic sixty one run victory.

Thomason 3-36 and Poysden 2-26 were the most successful bowlers, with Spencer, Javid, Umeed and Lamb each taking one wicket.
