Warwickshire’s Amy Jones continues to shine for the Perth Scorchers.
The Bears ‘keeper is enjoying considerable success down under as she embarks on her second stint with the club.
Jones struck 240 runs during last season’s Big Bash campaign having also featured for the Sydney Sixers during the 2016 and 2017 edition of the competition.
But the opener is now leading from the front having already accrued 387 runs from 12 innings at an average of 35.18.
Those stats put Jones sixth on the most runs list, two places shy of her partner at the top Megan Lanning.
The 26-year-old is enjoying success with the Australian international, having put on a dominant opening 104-run partnership, their fourth 100-run effort for the 2019 WBBL season, to secure victory over Sixes and earn their second straight victory at Lilac Hill, Perth.
“The partnership between Meg and I seems to be going really well. We enjoy batting together, we hit in different areas and we have been really good at picking up where the other one has been struggling,” said Jones to the Scorchers website.
“The Sixers have some world-class bowlers, we didn’t want to force anything too early. It’s a great wicket out here and we had faith we could catch up and sure enough, Meg found the boundary with ease today.
“The squad is really happy at the moment, having a few wins in the second half of the season is great and to beat the Sixers twice is a fantastic effort as they are a really good side.
“We have shown as a side we have got some real depth and lots of players stepping up, which should put us in good stead come finals if we qualify.”
The Scorchers are rising and currently sit third with 16 points from 12 matches, having won eight games.
Coached by newly appointed England Women’s head coach Lisa Keightley, the Scorchers have won seven out of their last ten and are now just one win short of the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Scorchers.
With four teams advancing to the semi-finals and just two games remaining against the Hobart Hurricanes who can’t qualify on Saturday (30 November), the Western Australia outfit needs just a point to secure a knockout berth.
