Warwickshire batsman Adam Hose believes he is heading into the new season in good shape having “learned loads” during the North v South series in Barbados.

My natural game is fairly positive and Belly and Trotty had put us in a position whereby we could take the game away from the opposition.

Hose has enjoyed a busy and diverse winter, much of it spent playing grade cricket in Australia before a brief return to Edgbaston preceded him jetting off to the Caribbean to represent the North in the ECB white-ball series.

Along with Bears team-mate Sam Hain, Hose was part of the victorious North side – and he reflects on his participation in the series as really helpful to his development as a player.

“It was a fantastic series to be involved in,” said the 25-year-old. “You learn so much about your game when you play in foreign environments and conditions and I learned loads from the trip.

“The environment of the North squad under Paul Franks and Paul Collingwood was great. They are two very good guys and very good coaches and they put us all in a good place so that we played some really good cricket. To get a series win was brilliant.”

Hose is now aiming to take that momentum into the Bears’ season starting, if selected, against Sussex at Edgbaston in the Specsavers County Championship opener on Friday.

He did his case for selection no harm with a punchy 68 against Durham MCCU on his Bears first-class debut last week.

“It was good to spend some time out in the middle,” he said. “The session’s batting that we managed to squeeze in among the bad weather against Durham MCCU was priceless. I was pleased with the way I played. My natural game is fairly positive and Belly and Trotty had put us in a position whereby we could take the game away from the opposition. That’s what I was asked to do, so I went out there and did my best.

“Hopefully I can get myself on the team-sheet for the Sussex game. I just want to try to contribute as much as I can to Warwickshire winning games this season and beyond.”
