Batting coach Tony Frost believes Dan Mousley will be “knocking on the first-team door” at Warwickshire in 2020 after the Bears academy product starred for England in the Under 19s World Cup in South Africa.
Mousley struck a stylish 111 in the final game, against Sri Lanka, to add a century to his two unbeaten half-centuries, against Japan and Australia.
"He is a talented lad who made his first-team debut for us last year and has got a bright future."
The 18-year-old showed an excellent temperament to go with his skills and continue the development he has made under Frost and the other coaches in the player pathway and senior set-up at Edgbaston.
“For Dan to get a hundred against Sri Lanka was a top effort,” said Frost. “I’m really pleased for him. He is a talented lad who made his first-team debut for us last year and has got a bright future. He is a very skilful batsman, especially against spin, and if he starts next season well he will be knocking on the first-team door.
“Every player in the squad has an opportunity this year. We had a tough season with injuries last year but some of the younger guys took their chance to really kick on. Dan made his debut and was really stoked about playing for the first team, I’ve never seen anyone prouder to play for the Bears. His attitude was spot on, even though it didn’t work out for him with the bat in that game.
“He is a great kid with an open mind about improving as a cricketer and is very positive about the way he wants to play his cricket.”
It has been an excellent month for Bears on England duty around the world with Mousley starring for the Under 19s, Dom Sibley scoring his maiden Test century and Sam Hain notching a ton for the Lions against a Cricket Australia XI to take his career List A average to a remarkable 61.66, with 11 centuries, from 60 games.
“If you look at Sibs with the full England team, Hainy with the Lions and Dan for the Under 19s, we have people in all age groups scoring runs for their country,” said Frost. “That’s brilliant for Warwickshire and the club as a whole.”
