Edgbaston Foundation launch sleepout

For a third successive year, Edgbaston will host a sleepout to help raise money to address youth homelessness around Birmingham and the Warwickshire region.

The Edgbaston Foundation is delighted to announce that the Edgbaston Sleepout returns on Thursday 25th April 2019.

Hosted for a third successive year at the internationally renowned Edgbaston Stadium, the sleepout sees staff of Warwickshire CCC network and meet business and civic leaders from the second city and surrounding area.

The event, which has raised £39,000 so far, is intended to support the work of St. Basils, the Edgbaston Foundation’s lead charity partner, who address youth homelessness around Birmingham and the Warwickshire region by raising a further £25,000.

“Taking part in the Edgbaston Sleepout won’t just raise funds for a great cause, it will also provide a life experience and an understanding of what rough sleepers go through on a regular basis,” said Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire CCC.

“Those taking part can help us address this deeply concerning situation in Birmingham and Warwickshire.

“This is a great team bonding experience that helps you connect with friends and colleagues in a truly memorable way. I encourage everyone to take part, it’ll be a night you’ll always remember.”

The sleepout has helped St. Basils with the establishment of a new focused employability programme, supporting young people back into work.

In addition, a Bears Bursary has been created to help ease the financial burden for young people under St. Basils care who are going to University.

“We are once again delighted to be working with the Edgbaston Foundation on the Edgbaston Sleepout,” added Barrie Hodge, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St. Basils.

“The money raised is vital to the success of our employability program, which helps young people who have experienced homelessness into work.

“On behalf of the young people who will benefit from this program, thank you.”

This year we are looking for senior individuals to lead a group of 5 or 10 to represent their organisations and help raise valuable funds.

The sleepout is a great team building opportunity and last year, Ashley Giles, now Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket at the England & Wales Cricket Board, joined Bishop of Birmingham Rt. Rev’d David Uruqhart, CEO Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Paul Faulkner and Partner of Anthony Collins Solicitors David Alcock.

If a team isn’t possible, individuals can take part and meet some great individuals whilst raising funds for an important issue in the region.

On the night there will be activities, a light meal, and speeches from special guests before heading out to sleep at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium.

There will also be complimentary tickets to a T20 fixture at Edgbaston as well as a chance to network with other key individuals across the city.
