Birkenshaw confirmed as next Cricket Society Speaker

The next meeting of the Midlands Branch of the Cricket Society takes place on Tuesday 21 November, when the guest will be Jack Birkenshaw, the former Yorkshire, Leicestershire and England off-spinner.

Birkenshaw began his professional cricket career in 1958, and went on to make 480 First Class appearances, taking 1,073 wickets at an average of 27.28 before retiring in 1980.

He would also win five Test caps for England and enjoyed a six-year umpiring career before returning to Leicestershire as coach, where he would lead the Foxes to the County Championship in 1996 and 1998.

The meeting, which will be held at Edgbaston, starts at 8pm with Warwickshire Members, friends and guests very welcome to attend, but are asked to support the raffle."
