Ashley Giles has finished his second Edgbaston sleepout to help address homelessness in Birmingham and the wider county of Warwickshire.

Staged on the evening of Thursday 26 April through the Edgbaston Foundation, the event has raised £19,000 for the main beneficiary St. Basils and the Winter Night Shelter.

It was an incredible evening and we are delighted with the funds raised.

The Edgbaston Foundation will also use funds generated to support young people with St. Basils with employability.

Giles was joined by numerous members of the local community and business district, including a team from Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and Birmingham Ladywood MP Shabana Mahmood.

Bishop of Bishop of Birmingham David Urquhart also lead a team of representatives from Church of England Birmingham, whilst Virgin Media entered a team of 11.

The night included an Edgbaston stadium tour, an indoor nets session which was led Giles, Liam Banks and Ryan Sidebottom and a meal, before sleeping outside in the ground.

“It was an incredible evening and we are delighted with the funds raised,” said Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement.

“With representation from Church of England, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, Virgin Media and many more it showed how people from different sectors can come together to make a difference and raise awareness of the gravity of the issue and the potential that exists through cross sector partnership work.

“There is still the chance to donate for not only those that slept out but also to continue to make a difference in the lives of at risk young people.”
