Despite losing Umeed and Javid cheaply, after being inserted by Nottinghamshire, half centuries from Coleman and Webb laid the foundation for Lamb 46, Thomason 42 and Jones 53 to extend the Warwickshire innings to 354 from almost eighty nine overs in the first 2nd XI Championship match of the season.

On the final day the Warwickshire opening pair both completed centuries and posted a partnership of 266.

In reply Nottinghamshire quickly reached 59-1 by stumps, losing Dal to Brookes with Wood unbeaten on 35 from 36 deliveries.

On the second day, Wood S, dominated, making 112 before becoming one of Brookes’ three victims and despite Wood L making 59 down the order, five wickets for Poysden 5-95, helped Warwickshire contain the Nottinghamshire batsmen, restricting them to 357 all out with a lead of just three.

In the remaining forty two overs, Umeed 72* and Javid 68* posted a strong opening partnership, closing the day on 148-0

On the final day the Warwickshire opening pair both completed centuries and posted a partnership of 266 before Wood took three wickets for the addition of just fourteen runs, dismissing Javid 121, Umeed 131 and Coleman 6 with Webb and Lamb then adding forty four quick runs ahead of the declaration.

Set 322 to win from fifty seven overs S Wood’s half-century gave Nottinghamshire some early hope, but the introduction of Poysden 3-90 kept the visitors in check and despite a late flurry from L Wood 61* and Carter 40, the target was just out of reach, as Nottinghamshire closed on 255-8 with the match drawn.
